And this is just recently. They literally always showed up at peaceful events Black people organized and met them with violence. The major difference was that in 2020, everybody who was never there before began to see it on their internet while they were stuck in the house.
So, they took the previous notion of "we weren't there, so we don't know what really happened" and copped out with the idea that violence doesn't help others stop being violent towards you...
TF. If they're being violent, they deserve violent reactions and any other reaction is simply only going to last until they react even more violently. So fuck it, we rage.
I think it’s also worth remembering that even without counting the “just run them over” laws, it’s significantly safer to protest in France because the general populace isn’t armed and likely to shoot anyone they disagree with - you can’t even display a firearm in public without committing an offence. Meanwhile in the US the people who talk the most about needing firearms in case they have to overthrow the government aren’t the people that are protesting right now, they’re the ones making the laws.

AITA posts that go viral are wild, they only ever fall into two categories: those like this, where the obvious asshole gaslights the questioner so badly they’re actually unsure if they’re in the right, or “I like to do unspeakable things to field mice, and the ASPCA is taking me to court. All I’m doing is exercising my right to free speech. AITA?”

part of me misses the pre-streaming tv era where you could just turn the tv on and watch something random 😔 now if you want to watch tv you have to carefully select something it’s so formal and you have to commit i miss the casualness of flipping through channels and being like ok sure
